Newsletter August 2009

Dear Sorobon Friends!   In these difficult and hectic economic times we are sending this newsletter to you from our sunny beach at Sorobon.

It has been some time now since you received our last newsletter so we will give you an update on what has been happening here in the meantime.

At this moment the Sorobon Team consists of:

Carla, our key figure and responsible for the Front Desk/Reception area. Barbara will assist Carla until December 1st 2009, after which she will be travelling the world with her partner Maarten.
Marjie took over from Isabel and is now our new bus driver and hostess for breakfast. Mischa, our chef, together with Lucile, works hard to keep up the excellent standard in the kitchen of our restaurant "The Sugarbird".
Jeny, the Queen of Happy Hour is expecting her first baby in January, but will continue working in the restaurant.
Pedro, our maintenance man, does an excellent job in keeping all the chalet appliances running, and Lydia, Orpha, Janeth and Milena keep up the high standard of housekeeping.
And last but not least Francisco, who rakes the beach every day and maintains our beautiful garden.

We have vacancies for the Front Desk and Restaurant at this moment, and hope that they will be filled before the high season starts.

During the past several months we started with a "face-lift" for the chalets.  Twelve rooms have been re-decorated, as you can see in the enclosed pictures, and the top of the kitchen sink units has been replaced by a "Corian" surface.

We decorated the walls of all the rooms with new pictures which have been printed on canvas. This means that framing is no longer necessary and the pictures have a higher resistance against the salty air.

We selected images of the underwater world of Bonaire and we are very pleased and thankful that our faithful repeat guest Anja van Doren kindly gave us many beautiful pictures from her private collection. All pictures were taken by herself and the colours are authentic, no retouching there!

More good news: we decided not to increase our rates for the coming year 2010!

Last year we asked for your opinion on several matters concerning Sorobon and the feedback we got was that we should change as little as possible; however, by redecorating the interior of the rooms we feel that we have refreshed the general appearance of the hotel.

We also asked your opinion concerning the celebration of our 25th Anniversary this year by giving you several options: a party for the guests, a free bottle of wine, or make a donation for a good cause and the majority decided on the last option. We will make known to you through our website which good cause has been chosen.

It is foreseen that Bonaire will become an official community of The Netherlands in 2011 and the island is very busy preparing itself for this major and important change. Bonaire will, unlike the islands of Curaçao and St. Maarten, have direct relationships with The Netherlands, together with the windward islands of Saba and St. Eustatius.
