Sorobon Beach Resort is situated on a beautiful beach on the Caribbean Sea, gently cooled by the constant trade winds. The shallow bay is protected by a barrier reef, ideal for swimming, snorkeling and windsurfing. The resort has the only nudist beach on the island, completely private, equipped with shelters made of palm tree branches and beach chairs. Guaranteed all-over sun-tanning! You will have a splendid view across the bay and sea, a constant changing of colors: green, deep-blue, turquoise. Enjoy the parakeets, flamingoes, birds, iguanas, all pure nature..!

Sorobon Beach has 30 chalets, all with ocean views. All chalets have airconditioning and are fitted with all conveniences; bedroom with a queensize bed, mosquito-net, ceiling fan, wardrobe, in-room safe, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen, electric fans, bed / settee and armchairs. The spacious terrace is furnished with deck-chairs and a wooden bench and dining table.


Maid service and fresh towels six days a week. Beach towels and linens are provided.

We have snorkel equipment. For relaxation and fun we have a jeu de boules court. There is also an extensive library with books in different languages and barbecue or Antillean night every week. Massage and yoga for your complete relaxation.

There is also a shop with a small range of souvenirs, beach and food items. You can rent a car at the resort for sightseeing or going out for dinner. Several times per week we have a free shopping trip to town. Free airport pick-up.

Sorobon is an eco-resort. Warm water is generated by solar energy and is recycled and used for the gardens in a natural setting. We always try to use natural products and materials.

Shop

Our little shop is located in the reception, where you can buy some breakfast items, like bread, milk, coffee, eggs and a limited selection of sun-tanning items, postcard, stamps and souvenirs.

Car Rental

Once you are at Sorobon you also may have the intention to explore the island. We can make reservations for you to rent a car. We are doing business with the car rental company "AB Car rental" and they will handle all your requests for carrentals.
They can pick you up at Sorobon and take you to the airport, where their office is.If you want to rent a car, please ask the frontdesk.
For the high season: book your car well in advance!

Rafts

There are three wooden rafts at anchor in the swimming area.The first raft is located about 30 yards off-shore and the second and third raft can be found about 600 yards from the beach, near the reef. The third raft on the right is meant for our quests. The left raft is for textile. These rafts are a good resting spot for snorkelers or waders as they make their way to or from the reef. Please be careful when you are lying in the sun. Because of the wind you do not feel that you might get a sunburn. Use good sun protection.

Internet/E-mail

We have computers available in our "cyber room" for those who want to surf on the internet or to send or check their e-mails. If you want to use this computer, please notify at the reception. You can use the cyber room for free.


Furthermore we now offer a wireless facility, so reaching the world websites is now possible sitting in the open air on the terrace/lounge area, enjoying the wonderful tropical breeze.

Currency/Money

U.S. Dollars, Travelers checks and major creditcards are welcome everywhere. The local currency in the Dutch Antilles is the NA Florin or Guilder, and floats with the U.S. Dollar. Be aware, that you cannot pay with Euro's on this island. You can exchange them at the bank. Furthermore you can also use the pinmachine to cash money.

Passports & Immigration

Beginning January 23, 2007, ALL persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air between the United States and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Document, or an Alien Registration Card, Form I-551, if applicable.

Europeans need a valid passport plus a round trip or transit passage ticket. Maximum stay: 14 days with the possibility of extending the visit to 90 days.

Shopping and banking hours

Shops: Monday through Saturday 8.00 a.m. till noon and from 2.00 p.m. till 6.00 p.m.

Cultimara Supermarket: Monday through Saturday 7.30 a.m. till 7.00 p.m., Sundays from 7.30 a.m. till 2.00 p.m.

RBTT Bank, Banco de Caribe, Maduro & Curiel's Bank. Banking hours are Monday through Friday from 8.00 a.m. till 3.30 p.m.
You can also use the ATM/pin machine to cash money.

Taxes

Bonaire has a US$ 32,-- airport departure tax per person, which can only be paid in cash. With your stay here at Sorobon, you also have to pay a tourist/roomtax of US$ 6,50 per night per person. This tax goes directly to the local government. Children under 13 years are free of charge for the tourist tax.

In September 2007 we have expanded our restaurant "the Sugarbird" with a number of tables and put in a new library, children's corner and three new toilets.

With Simon, as our Chef we have created a variety of mouthwatering dishes for lunch and dinner.

The breakfast buffet now includes scrambled eggs and bacon, boiled eggs, various cereals, smoked salmon, fresh fruit and much more for € 12,50. Other sweet and savory dishes may be ordered off the menu as well.

Our lunch menu includes salads, pastas, classic burgers and other tasty sandwiches and freshly baked rolls.

Every night we serve dinner in the restaurant. We have an international dinner menu with a touch of Caribbean and Oriental influences, including steak, pastas and fresh fish dishes.

For our vegetarian guests we also have a choice of vegetarian courses. Once a week we organize a special dinner and/or a barbecue.

Once a week we invite you for an informal get together at the Manager's Party. Free soft drinks, beers and wines.

The bar is open all day and in the evening with a choice of cocktails, all kinds of liquors and a wine list that includes wines form all over the world. We serve drinks at special prices during Happy Hour, every day between 5.30 and 6.30 PM.

Beside our own "The Sugarbird" restaurant there is a number of good restaurants on the island. Closeby is Kontiki Restaurant with Fresh local fish, steaks, fruits, salads and tropical cocktails. They have a free pick up service.

On a regular base, except on Sunday and Holy days, we offer maid service (no dishes). Please leave your house to make it possible for the maid to clean efficiently.

  • water taxi to Klein Bonaire

Ice cube machine

Feel free to take the ice you need. In your room you have a bucket in which you can carry the ice cubes.

The nude area

You can relax and walk around nude everywhere in the resort, inside the fence and in the bay in front of the resort. Clothing is optional everywhere as well. Because of the naturist character of the resort we prefer nudity at least on the beach and in our swimming area. We do not have a dress code in our restaurant and bar. We call this code "None".

Diving

Bonaire belongs to the Top 3 of best diving areas of the world. The island is known for its beautiful coral reefs and colored underwater life. Ask for information at the front office about diving courses, air-fill, underwater photography etc. We can introduce you to Bonaire's underwater world.


Bonaire is famous because it has also many shore diving spots. You can recognize them on the yellow painted stones with a name along the roads.

Behind the second raft in the bay is a reef where you can have a beautiful snorkeling time. The water is shallow with lots of fish. Snorkel equipment can be rented at the reception. You can also buy snorkel equipment. Mask and snorkel price per day $ 4,- also for fins and shoes. Mask and fins or mask and shoes price per day $ 7,-. Price per week is $ 35,-. Around the island are many beautiful snorkeling spots. It is legally forbidden to touch the coral. Please abide by these Bonarian laws that protect nature!

Windsurf center at Sorobon

The bay at Sorobon is also an ideal location for windsurfing. The shallow water and the constant on-shore breezes, are assuring a safe and enjoyable time for beginners as well as pros. The wind blows 12-18 knots in September through November and reaches 15 to 25 knots during the rest of the year. There are two windsurfing schools located next to the hotel.

Water

The water on the island is pure and safe to drink, but costly. Please do not waste water. All taps in the resort give purified sea water. The drip system gives recycled water.

Shower

The warm water taps and the showers give solar heated water. There are also cold showers on the beach.

Electricity

The electricity at Sorobon Beach Resort is 110 volts and 220 volts, 50 Hz. Most U.S. and European appliances will work at our resort. Sorobon gets its electricity from the W.E.B. This is the provider for water and electricity for the whole island of Bonaire.

Check out time is 12.00 p.m. For late departure check at the office.

Telephone and fax

At the reception you can call directly to USA and Europe during office hours.
Just give the girls at the front desk the number you want to dial and they connect you to one of the two phone booths. However 1-800 numbers are not free from charges. Neither are calls charged on a credit card.

An uniformed security guard is on duty from 9pm till 07.30am. He can also assist you with after hours emergencies.

Air-conditioning

The airco is set on a timer between 7 PM and 7 AM. If you require different times, please ask at the front desk. Because of the extremely high electricity prices, we kindly request you to close the windows and curtains, when you are using the air-conditioning. Recommended room temperature: 24 and 26 Celsius.
