The real local food of bonaire right on your plate!
Ever wondered why food in Bonaire, especially vegetables, is expensive in restaurants and supermarkets?
That’s because nothing grows on this island naturally! The Caribbean island is mainly stone and coral and plots of soil are barely – if at all – existent. Bonaire is a big steppe. And what grows in steppes? Well, basically nothing.
The Local Solution: Meat!
The food culture developed around fish and goat meat. Indulge yourself in steamy and rich flavors of meaty stews in snacks (local eateries along the roads). For a little extra adventure, order an iguana stew at Posada Para Mira in Rincon. We promise you won’t regret it!
Another insider’s tip: visit the monthly Taste of Bonaire celebrations to find an abundance of food trucks offering all the different cuisines on the island!
But The Problem is Still There…
…What About the Vegetables?
All the importing makes the vegetables very expensive. What’s more, they usually are not as tasty, as most arrive frozen.
We were determined to solve at least a bit of this problem in Sorobon Beach Club. Serving our guests with the freshest ingredients has always been our goal. Besides – who wants to sit in one of the most beautiful locations of the world and eat frozen veggies? Let us tell you – no one!
What’s Our Solution? A Greenhouse!
The small greenhouse requires much care and consistent daily attention – just a bit too much sun with too little water and half of the greens will start withering. Our gardeners are the diligent caretaker of our baby spinach, mint, basil, peppers and more!
The Best Thing About Our Personal Greenhouse?
The veggies, greens, and herbs are harvested every day! Which means that the salad you taste during lunch or dinner was still lounging in soil under the sun in the morning before it could reach your table just a few hours later! This is the true definition of vitamin-fueled cuisine we so persistently offer!
